Healthier Living with Arthritis: Prioritize Your Wellness This August

CAAA Exercize programs for older adults

August is National Wellness Month! It's the perfect time to focus on stress management, self-care, healthy routines, and overall well-being. For many older adults living with arthritis, however, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be challenging.

Arthritis affects millions of Americans, and many individuals also live with chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure. These co-existing conditions can make it more difficult to stay active, often leading to increased pain, decreased mobility, and a greater risk of falls. That's why prioritizing health and wellness is especially important for people living with arthritis.

National Wellness Month is a reminder to check in with yourself and those around you. Small steps toward better physical, mental, and emotional health can make a meaningful difference.

Connections Area Agency on Aging offers a variety of evidence-based health and wellness programs designed to help older adults improve their quality of life, manage chronic conditions, and maintain independence. These proven programs include:

  • Walk With Ease® – A walking program developed by the Arthritis Foundation that helps reduce arthritis pain, improve balance and strength, and increase confidence in physical activity.
  • Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention – Gentle movements that improve flexibility, balance, strength, and mobility while reducing the risk of falls.
  • Matter of Balance – A falls prevention program that helps participants overcome the fear of falling while increasing activity levels and confidence.
  • Bingocize® – A fun, interactive program that combines the game of bingo with exercise and health education to improve mobility, strength, and overall wellness.
  • Mind Over Matter: Healthy Bowels, Healthy Bladder – An educational program that empowers older adults to better manage bladder and bowel health, improving confidence and quality of life.
  • Powerful Tools for Caregivers – A workshop that helps family caregivers reduce stress, increase self-care, and develop practical caregiving skills.

These evidence-based programs are designed to:

  • Increase physical activity and mobility
  • Reduce arthritis pain and stiffness
  • Improve balance and prevent falls
  • Build confidence in managing chronic conditions
  • Enhance overall health and independence

Whether you're living with arthritis, managing another chronic condition, or simply looking for ways to stay active and healthy, there's a program that can help.
