Session 1: Conversations I Should Have with My Adult Children
As you were raising your children, conversations took place regarding your hopes and aspirations for their futures. Now, it is time to turn the tables to discuss your hopes and decisions for your future. Join this panel discussion that will explore different aspects of aging. No matter your age, educational, financial, or medical status, there are key areas to discuss and ways to make those conversations easier. Encourage your children to attend (with or without you) the counterpart discussion in the evening.

As parents age often roles will reverse, and you, as your parent’s caregiver, may need to make decisions on their behalf. Have you had those conversations about what their wishes are, where you can find their important documents (including which documents should be completed), and other related issues? Join our panel to discuss what questions need to be addressed within every family, and strategies for making those discussions as painless and unproblematic as possible. Don’t forget to encourage your parent(s) to attend the morning session on this same day!

First Friday: Welcome to Medicare

Connections Area Agency on Aging’s Sioux City office and Mercy Medical Center’s Older Adult Services co-host First Friday Coffee: Welcome to Medicare. This unbiased, informative seminar for new Medicare beneficiaries is held the first Friday of every month. The seminars are from 1:30 to 4:00 at Connections Area Agency on Aging, 2301 Pierce Street, Sioux City. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. There is no cost to attend.

Assisting new beneficiaries to increase their understanding of Medicare is a combined effort of SHIIP programs (Senior Health Insurance Information Program), sponsored by both Mercy Medical Center and Connections Area Agency on Aging. Discussion topics will include who is eligible for benefits and timeframes for applying, understanding Medicare’s benefits and options, supplements, Medicare Advantage plans, prescription drug plans and protecting their Medicare benefits. 3. Iahealthlink Public Comment meeting

Department of Human Services will be holding public comment meetings to gather input on the IA Health Link managed care program. Meetings will be held once per month in varying locations throughout Iowa. Each meeting will be scheduled for two hours, held in the afternoon to allow for public transportation availability, and held at the end of the work day. Meetings will open with a brief introduction from the Department staff attending each meeting. The introduction will include a 10 minute update and overview of the IA Health Link program, initiative goals, and relevant information updates given by the Department.
