Join the Conversation: Iowa Dialogue on Helping Older Adults Maintain the Highest Quality of Life Possible

Tuesday, November 17, 2015
10:00 am12:00 pm
Creston Chamber of Commerce

Iowans are living longer than ever before, with one out of every five residents now aged 60 or older. That number is expected to grow over the next few decades, with the vast majority of individuals stating they would prefer to age in place, in their homes and communities of choice.

“Join the Conversation” aims to continue a statewide discussion about issues like the changing dynamics between generations; the challenges of caregiving; the financial considerations of elder care; and the realities of aging, both physical and mental. As Iowans share their thoughts, concerns, opinions, and ideas, they will be documented and shared with Iowa Legislators and the Governor.

Be a part of the process and…join the conversation.

The event is free and open to the public. For additional information, call LifeLong™ Links at 866.468.7887

“Join the Conversation” will be hosted by Connections Area Agency on Aging and facilitated by the Elevate Aging Coalition whose members include: AARP Iowa, Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Iowa Chapter, The Hale Group, Iowa Alliance for Retired Americans, Iowa Association of Area Agencies on Aging, Iowa CareGivers, Jewish Family Services, Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman and Older Iowans Legislature. Technical assistance is provided by the Iowa Department on Aging.

WIT's Aging Well Series - Part 3 Caregiving: A Team Effort

Wednesday, November 18, 2015
10:00 am11:30 am
Sioux City - Western Iowa Tech

Providing care is a rewarding role, but it’s also physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially stressful… and should never be done alone. It is estimated that there are over 350,000 informal family caregivers in Iowa. Many caregivers don’t even recognize they are filling this role, but you can count yourself as one if you provide daily care for an aging or ailing spouse or person with disabilities, or are raising a grandchild. Caregivers are also, for example, those who help their neighbor get their groceries, call a friend or relative regularly to see if they are safe, stop to visit with aging parents and help around the home. Taking proper care of yourself allows you to live a healthy, productive life, while also becoming an even better caregiver. Designing a team of family members, neighbors, medical providers, faith community members, and other community supports can ease the load. At this session, a panel of experts from Connections Area Agency on Aging and other organizations will address the needs of caregivers and give practical advice on how to build or expand your supportive team.

Preregistration recommended. Call 712.274.6404 or 800.352.4649
