Program Offers Information on New Long-Term Care Partnership

As of January 1, 2010, Iowa law allows long-term care insurance companies to sell “Partnership” plans. The “Partnership” is between insurance companies and the state Medicaid program. Individuals who purchase Long-Term Care Partnership policies may be able to qualify for Medicaid before spending most of their assets.

The state of Iowa’s Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIIP) and Southwest 8 Senior Services, Area Agency on Aging, are offering a program on Friday, June 4 from 11:00am – Noon, to explain the Partnership. Jason Cooper, long-term care insurance specialist for SHIIP and the Iowa Insurance Division, will present the program at The Council Bluffs Centre, 714 South Main Street. Cooper will introduce the Partnership and explain how it coordinates with Medicaid.

For more information call Southwest 8 at (712) 328-2540, extension 21. If you are unable to attend and would like information about the Partnership Program call SHIIP at 1-800-351-4664 (TTY 800-735-2942) or go to www.therightcalliowa.gov and click “Long-Term Care Insurance.”
